Human Powered Adventure

When I was a kid, my heros were the explorers of yore – Sir Francis Drake, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Magellan, Sir Edmund Hillary, Lewis and Clark, John Muir, Teddy Roosevelt, etc. etc. Today, my heros are the same, but with the addition of modern day multi-sport athletes who push adventure and endurance – Alex Honnold, Kilian Jornet, Oskar Speck, Ueli Steck, Goran Kropp, the list goes on and on!

As an endurance athlete and a sailor growing up, I had this fascination of exploration without the use of carbon fuels, exploration fueled by a sense of adventure that forged an intimate connection with nature, a connection that could only be felt if you were walking, hiking, climbing, biking, paddling, sailing, drifting… These explorers used the wind, water currents, their own legs, arms, strength, and the power of human ingenuity to conquer incredible feats and explore lands unseen by the human eye.

This fascination with tales of ancient explorers who had no access to petroleum, electricity, etc. propelled me into my own adventures, trying my best to explore the world and connect with nature with a similar intimacy. My love of history and sense of adventure has me reading books about these explorers and following modern day adventurers as they pursue their own dreams.

Hence this blog. The website is mainly informational about how you can have your own adventure camping on Catalina Island via kayak, however, I will use this blog to delve into the world of human powered adventure. A mix of classic exploration and modern day, multi-sport adventure. A mix of stories of adventure and how-to guides about all facets of bikepacking, packrafting, kayak camping, hiking and climbing, fishing, etc.

I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to contact me regarding any questions or comments you may have. Thanks!
